Ruth Brownlee

Born near Edinburgh in 1972, Ruth graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1994 with a BA (Hons) in Drawing and Painting/Tapestry.  In 1998 Ruth moved permanently to Shetland to teach, but also to concentrate on her painting, and still resides there to this day.  She has often been quoted as saying that it was the open space and changing light which really made her fall for Shetland, and the skies and seas of the Island are now her inspiration.  Using Shetland's wonderful landscapes and views to full effect, Ruth has become renowned for her interpretation of the dramatic light and moods of the Isles.  A multi-award winning artist, Ruth's paintings are now in private and corporate collections around the World, and she exhibits regularly in some of the top galleries in London and Edinburgh.

Gallerist comment - ' Having been to Shetland I can easily see why many cite that Ruth's amazing paintings speak without words - she captures the sights, sounds and smells of Shetland in every painting.'
