Iain Faulkner

Born in Glasgow in 1973 and graduating from Glasgow School of Art in 1996 with a BA (Honours) in Fine Art, his degree show was a sell-out.  Iain Faulkner is now without question one of Britain's top figurative painters.

An established artist with the Ablemarle/ Pontone Galleries in London and with numerous solo shows in New York, Paris, Geneva, Monaco and Bologna.  The Ballater Gallery is incredibly honoured to be Iain Faulkner's only gallery in Scotland.  His work appears in many private and corporate collections and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.  Iin 2010 he was commissioned to paint the European Ryder Cup Team members portraits.
Faulkner's paintings most often feature a lone protagonist.  Dressed uniformly, we see him paused between activities at a moment of reflection, pre-occupation or self-absorption.  The subject can appear rootless and world-weary, in transit at a hotel, or behind the wheel of a car or motorboat.  The fact that his face is obscured or turned away allows the collector to see this figure as an everyman or anyone.

Gallerist comment - 'I've known Iain Faulkner for many years, collected and been enthralled by his work, and even been to his solo shows in New York and Bologna.  To have persuaded Iain to exhibit in Ballater is a genuine thrill, but it is also a delight that he and his family have now fallen for Royal Deeside.  It took little persuasion for him to paint the spectacular Lochnagar and Loch Callater.'
