About Nichola Martin
Born in Carnoustie, Angus, once completing school, Nichola moved to Fife where she continues to work from her studio today. As a mature student, before completing an HND in Art & Design at Elmwood College, Cupar, Nichola graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, Dundee with a BA Hons in Fine Art in 2007. Whilst at art school Nichola was awarded the John Kinross Scholarship enabling her to study in the city of Florence, Italy and also won the Scottish Further Education Unit Prize both awarded by the Royal Scottish Academy. Since graduating Nichola became Artist in Residence for StAnza (Scotlands International Poetry Festival) in 2019 for her depiction of books.
A keen lover of the Italian Renaissance period Nichola’s work focuses on still-life and figurative works both in oils and charcoal. A skilled draughtsman Nichola’s work is highly sought after for paintings requiring a high level of technical detail, including a private commission for the late British espionage author John Le Carre of all his published books.
Since graduating Nichola has exhibited widely throughout the UK and has numerous works in private collections internationally. As well as working on her own drawings and paintings Nichola holds various workshops and classes throughout the year. From teaching the fundamental importance of drawing to oil painting.
