Stuart Luke Gatherer

Stuart Luke Gatherer was born in England in 1971 to Scottish and Dutch parents.  Although now having carved an exceptional career as an important British artist and living in the Malvern Hills, Stuart actually grew up, and attended school in Aboyne, only a few miles from The Ballater Gallery.  Graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 1995 with an MFA, Stuart Luke Gatherer quickly gained a reputation as one of the country’s best and most collectible painters, building on the classical tradition of figurative painting to develop his own unique style.

Gatherer produces dramatic compositions of figurative art reflecting his debt to the old masters.  Highly regarded now through his dedication to exploring and expressing themes and subjects that are relevant in today’s world.  His paintings entice the viewer to interact with contemporary scenes from the vantage point of an unseen onlooker.

Having exhibited in London’s most revered galleries including Albemarle, Pontone and Panter & Hall.  Gatherer has also exhibited internationally including shows in New York.

Gallerist Comment ‘’I am genuinely not only thrilled that Stuart has agreed to allow The Ballater Gallery to exhibit his work  in Scotland but, terribly excited as I’ve been a fan of his work for many, many years and long before we opened in 2019.  Stuart’s exquisite paintings are held in some of the most important private and corporate collections around the world and as one of our most knowledgeable collectors said to me “I’ve never seen story telling in a painting like it.”  I visited Stuart at his studio in July 2020 and the paintings en route to Ballater are just stunning, watch this space !”
