Calum Stevenson

Calum Stevenson is a distinguished Scottish contemporary painter best known for his expressive figurative works that explore movement, light and the human form. Born in Falkirk, Scotland in 1997, Calum trained at leading Scottish art institutions, graduating with a BA (Hons) in Fine Arts from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and an MA in Fine Art Practice from the Glasgow School of Art.

Calum came to national prominence in 2021 when he became the youngest and first-ever Scottish winner of Sky Portrait Artist of the Year, winning a prestigious commission to paint violinist Nicola Benedetti — a work now part of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection in Edinburgh.

Since then, his work has been acquired by both public and private collections, and featured in solo and group exhibitions across the UK. Calum’s paintings are celebrated for their dynamic energy, rich use of colour and bold engagement with the human figure — balancing realism with atmospheric expression.

At Ballater Gallery, his work continues to attract collectors drawn to contemporary figurative painting with depth, emotion and technical mastery.
