Calum Stevenson (b. 1997, Falkirk, Scotland) is an award-winning Scottish painter whose work centres on the exploration of movement, light and the human presence through expressive oil painting. He achieved both his undergraduate and master’s degrees in fine art from prestigious Scottish art schools — Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and the Glasgow School of Art — establishing a strong foundation in traditional and contemporary practice.
In 2021, Calum made history by becoming the youngest and first Scottish artist to win the televised competition Sky Portrait Artist of the Year. For his winning entry, he painted celebrated violinist Nicola Benedetti, a commission that now hangs in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection in Edinburgh.
His artistic journey has included major commissions, solo exhibitions such as The Dance Studio (Gallery Heinzel, Aberdeen and Edinburgh), and inclusion in important exhibitions and collections across the UK. Collectors from both public institutions and private collections have acquired his work, reflecting his growing reputation in contemporary figurative painting.
Calum’s practice continues to evolve with a focus on the emotional resonance of the figure and the interplay of light and environment — inviting viewers into moments of presence, gesture and narrative through painterly brushwork and bold composition.
