Michael Clark PAI RSW RGI

Born in Ayr in 1959, Michael graduated from Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) in 1983.  Working for the BBC in Glasgow, Michael moved to London in 1989 where he worked as a freelance art director and illustrator but continued painting and selling highly successfully throughout this period.  Michael and his family returned to Scotland in 1999 where he has painted full-time and to great acclaim, exhibiting in high profile mixed and solo shows in London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Oxford, Suffolk and Norfolk.

Michael takes his style from the Scottish colourist tradition and spends considerable time painting and travelling in France (particularly Paris, Provence and Bordeaux), which is so evident from his paintings.  Considered one of Scotland’s most popular painters for his unique, yet classic style, rich palettes and bold contrasts, Michael is also renowned for his outstanding execution of shadow and light.

Gallerist comment - 'It's great fun to visit Mike at his wonderfully situated studio by his home overlooking the beautiful River Doon in Ayrshire.  I'm enthralled by his terrific paintings, from village life in France, to Scottish landscapes and golfers, to his famous "Little Black Dress" series.'
